Abstract

The language is one of the most important source of commentary. This is argued in the exegesis of the Qur'an and the hadiths of the Prophet. The forerunners of the narrators of the hadiths have argued from this in the interpretation of the hadiths. Sheikh Abdul Hag Mohaddis Dehlavi in his commentary on the hadiths has deduced jurisprudential issues by adopting the style of arguments from the Arabic language. There is no denying the importance of reasoning from the language in explaining the hadiths but it is not the right way to ignore other sources while acknowledging it as the only source. The Arabic language is an authentic source in the hadith. The reason for this is that Arabic is a broad language in which a word is used for many meanings and a sentence can have many meanings. Therefore, a meaning based on a dictionary alone becomes a cause of error. Sheikh 'Abdul-Haq has deduced the jurisprudential issues from the Arabic language in the commentary of the hadith in Asha'a al-Lama'at and Lama'at.
