The school of thought “Khawᾱrij” appeared during the (late) first century and (early) second century (of Islam). People allied to this school tried to offer explanation of different verses of the Holy Qur’ᾱn in contrast to the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) to accomplish their specific logical and political manifesto. Thereafter, another school of thought appeared under the title of “Mu‘tazilah“. Their thinking was influenced by the Greek philosophy and they start to explain the meaning of the Holy Qur’ᾱn that contradicted the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), Then came the period of Western philosophy, starting from the seventeenth century CE having its roots in the Greek mythology. This Western thinking affected the people world over widely, including some scholars and philosophers of sub-continent. One prominent figure among these scholars was Ahmad-ud-Dīn Amrat-Sarī, who tried to give logical explanations of the Holy Qur’ᾱn in his Tafsīr titled “Bayᾱn lin Nᾱs” generally; and in its “Muqadimah” (foreword) specifically, according to Western philosophy. In what follows? We present a critical and analytical study of the “Muqadimah” (foreword) of the Tafsīr “Bayᾱn lin Nᾱs” by Khawᾱjh Ahmad-ud-Dīn Amrat-Sarī, in this article.
